The following examples from our body of work illustrate the success we have helped our clients achieve:
TRAILWAYS ANNUAL MEETING
In spring of 2010, Trailways called upon McMillan Associates to handle three separate events as a part of their annual meeting held at Ross Bridge Resort in Birmingham, Alabama. These three very differently themed experiences took place within a 36-hour time span and began with the "University of Trailways Tailgate Party" complete with cheerleaders, kegs and a goal post. Smiley faces and peace signs were prominent in the decor for the "Groovy 60's" reception and costume party. Formality took precedence with the meeting's conclusion at the "Moonlight & Magnolias" gala and silent auction.
AUBURN UNIVERSITY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN KICKOFF & DONOR CELEBRATION DINNER
For Auburn University’s Development Office, we produced their Capital Campaign Kickoff by transforming the work-a-day John H. Watson Fieldhouse into a space that rivaled the ballrooms of five star hotels. We scripted the evening’s program, complete with a gospel choir, a dance band and an attention-getting presentation that included a Heisman Trophy winner, a Gemini astronaut, the Chairman of the largest business consultancy on the planet and the former commandant of the United States Marine Corps. In association with daniel george, one of the Southeast's premier restaurants, a gourmet meal was served to 550 guests simultaneously, using a temporary on-site kitchen. And we capped it off with an appearance by a full marching band.
Auburn University was so pleased with the Campaign Kickoff event, they hired McMillan Associates again two years later to produce its Donor Celebration Dinner in June of 2008. This evening was a much more "country casual" celebration which took place in the historic Heritage Park and ended with a spectacular display of fireworks.
FIESTA
Since its inception in 2003, McMillan Associates has produced Alabama's premier Hispanic event each October Fiesta,Inc. Fiesta offers music, dance, performing arts, visual arts, children’s activities, soccer, cultural education and authentic Latin food. Non-profit and health-related organizations are also on hand to showcase their resources to both Hispanic and non-Hispanic attendees. Fiesta provides a wonderful opportunity for Alabamians to journey throughout Latin American countries and experience their people, music, art, food and culture.
WORKPLAY'S NEW YEAR'S EVOLUTION
On December 31st and January 1st, 2006-7 and 2007-8, we celebrated not only the coming of a new year in Birmingham, but we did so in an exciting and innovative way. McMillan Associates, in collaboration with WorkPlay, produced New Year's Eve Evolution, an evening which allowed patrons to celebrate the New Year in four different time zones. Guests arrived to a sea of paparazzi, red carpet, and velvet ropes as they entered a venue that has been magically transformed into distinctive-themed settings of the four United States time zones. Attendees rang in the New Year four times in four separate areas of the venue, each cleverly decorated and catered to represent a city or area representative of each time zone.
RED BULL WRITERS BLOCK
McMillan Associates is pleased to have partnered with Red Bull North America to produce three installments of Red Bull Writer’s Block at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2006, the third installment of this successful series was a day-long celebration of self-expression challenging twenty of the nation’s best graffiti artists to push the boundaries of their creativity.
AN EVENING AT IVY GREEN
McMillan Associates developed and produced the Helen Keller Birthplace Foundation Capital Campaign Kick-Off held on June 22nd, 2006, “An Evening at Ivy Green.” This memorable event took place under a large tent on the grounds of Ivy Green, the Birthplace of Helen Keller, and included a seated dinner and a live performance of a scene from "The Miracle Worker." Guest speakers Patty Duke and Patsy Riley contributed to the evening which served as an important catalyst for the Helen Keller Birthplace Foundation’s $5 million fundraising effort.
SIDEWALK MOVING PICTURE FESTIVAL
The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival takes place each September and showcases some of the best independent filmmaking in the country. Sidewalk was named one of TIME magazine’s “Film Festivals for the Rest of Us.” MovieMaker Magazine calls the event a “Best Kept Secret,” and the Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide lists Sidewalk among its “Best Vacation Film Festivals.” In 2007, 2008 and 2009, McMillan Associates was hired to handle the production of this three-day, multi-venue event in downtown Birmingham.
ALABAMA PALS (PEOPLE AGAINST A LITTERED STATE)
Alabama PALS is our state’s leading anti-litter organization. For many years, this 501(c)3 organization received its funding from the State of Alabama. When the State ceased funding non-state agencies, PALS hired McMillan Associates to develop a corporate sponsorship program for its valuable environmental initiatives. In addition, it sought our help in grant writing and our counsel regarding other sources of public sector funding.
